Mark Dalley signed up with Paragon Skills, not to start his career, but to improve his prospects in an existing role. As manager of a thriving barbershop in Birmingham, who had previously trained Apprentices, Mark wanted to expand his understanding of management principles. With a Diploma in Management Mark has been able to take the business and his career prospects to new heights.
Prior to starting his Diploma, Mark had been training a Level 2 hairdressing Apprentice through Paragon Skills. After this experience he witnessed first hand what potential could be unlocked through an Apprenticeship, compared with conventional routes such as full time college education.
“Modern apprenticeships are a hundred miles ahead of college student courses….as an employer I could not recommend taking on an apprentice more. I believe due to [my apprentice] using a vocational route she has a much more mature attitude and committed to completing the course professionally and to the best of her ability.”

Through this experience Mark realised how valuable an ‘on-the-job’ qualification could be for honing skills in a practical environment. It was then that he decided to flip the tables and become an Apprentice himself to learn new skills that would transform his management style. Having been away from books and academic life for some time, it took Mark a while to adjust and get used to having his maths and English skills tested. With guidance from Paragon Skills highly qualified team of tutors and assessors Mark was able to pass all of his tests.
