How did Cat arrive on the Customer Service Apprenticeship route?

24-year-old Cat Gold from Wimborne originally completed her A-levels at Corfe Hills School, and although she had applied to go to university, deep down she knew that she would prefer to start work instead.  After school she proceeded to work in Waitrose where she was interacting with customers on a regular basis, and it was then that she realised she had a talent for connecting with customers and making conversation.

This inspired Cat to start looking at the Apprenticeship route which at first she thought was just for subjects such as Engineering or Hair & Beauty, however was delighted when she found out that we offered other subjects. Then, in May 2012, she started her level 2 in Customer Service with Paragon Skills and decided to continue onto her level 3 in 2014.

Paragon Skills were really good at finding me a job, they found me Intergage! They were incredibly supportive throughout my journey and helped me unlock my true potential at an age where I was unsure about anything!

How has Cat progressed in her Customer Service career?

Since Cat completed her Apprenticeship training, she has been promoted 4 times in her 5 years at Intergage.  Her original role for the first year and a half whilst training was as a Training and Client Support Coordinator. Following this, Cat achieved her first promotion to the role of Client Services Executive on a level 3 Customer Service Apprenticeship.

It was during this role that Cat was able to gain valuable experience in Marketing in addition to Customer Service. She worked with the Marketing Director to create and run a number of campaigns. She continued with this role until August 2015 when she was promoted yet again to an Account Executive.

Her most recent promotion to Client Services Manager in June this year was quite an achievement. With each job change there came more targets, reporting for board meetings, training staff members, selling, and learning several new pieces of software which were all new challenges. All the hard work has definitely paid off now; since she is currently leading a team of 3 others where she was once the Apprentice in that team. She’s also looking for a fourth team member to join them! She has had the opportunity to try many different subjects in her role. “It’s been incredibly varied!”

What does Cat love about her Customer Service role?

In her current role she says she is surrounded by experts in the fields that she has developed a passion for. She has the opportunity at Intergage to learn so much all the time, which is something she wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do if she had chosen the university route to study a degree instead.

She loves being creative and getting her clients excited about the possibilities when it comes to their Business and Marketing. She has really enjoyed building relationships with all of her clients and learning how to inspire them with all that Intergage has to offer.

The future is bright.

Cat is not sure what the future holds yet but she would like to continue her career in Client Services, maybe Sales, or even Marketing.

I’ve been given the tools by Intergage and Paragon Skills so I feel all set for my future. I have plenty of time to explore other options but this is only because of the experience I’ve gained from doing an Apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship has boosted my confidence and helped me stand out in the company. I would recommend if anyone is considering an Apprenticeship to just go for it. It makes you very attractive to other companies as they love people who like to learn.
