Karen Hockney takes Team Leading to the top!
Karen Hockney, a 38-year-old mum from Birmingham has achieved great things since taking her Apprenticeship with us and completing her Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading this month - June 2017.
Karen was already employed by Banana Moon Nursery in West Bromwich as the Assistant Deputy Manager when she decided that she would benefit from some training in order to develop her skills and ability as a team leader.
What did Karen gain from her Apprenticeship?
During Karen’s time working at the nursery, she was promoted to Deputy Manager and was responsible for managing seven staff. Through studying the Level 2 in Team Leading, Karen said she definitely developed a better understanding of how to manage a team. In addition, the training made her a stronger person and helped to improve her overall managerial performance. Her communication skills became more effective and she developed a better bond with practitioners.
A challenge for Karen is that she has to manage her time carefully and she works long hours and has a young family. Despite this, Karen has managed to developer her career, gain qualifications and no doubt is a fabulous Mum too.
Since completing her Apprenticeship, Karen has gained a new position as a Manager with another employer – Superstars Day Nursery in Birmingham where she manages ten staff and says that it is thanks to the training that has given her the skills and confidence to progress her career in this way.
Karen’s advice to others who are thinking about taking an Apprenticeship is:
