Inspiring people to succeed.

Whilst undertaking his Level 1 Certificate in Marine Skills and Vessel Engineering at our Fareham training centre, Joshua took advantage of our partnership with SWAC (Southampton Water Activities Centre) and undertook optional add-on courses to extend his knowledge and experience.

Joshua tells us in his own words how he benefited from studying with us and his plans for the future.

Why did you choose this course?

When I started this course, I lacked proper understanding of the marine industry so I was intrigued to learn about it and get involved with the water sports world. As we begun the course, I quickly learned to love sailing, powerboating and simply the life at SWAC.

What did you learn on the Marine Skills course?

It taught me a new way of seeing situations and I learned how to solve problems on the spot; learning to adapt and overcome. As an additional extra with this course, I gained levels 1, 2 and 3 Sailing qualifications, 1* and 2* BCU, and Level 2 Power boat license in addition to trying windsurfing and stand up paddle boarding.

This has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life that has also given me a unique set of skills and experiences to help me further my career in the marine industry. Before I started this course,  I had no idea what I wanted to do with regards to my career but now that has completely changed.

What are your plans for the future?

I will now look to progress as a sailing instructor while I am at college and hopefully do a season working abroad. After college I will be looking to complete an unlimited super yacht cadetship so that one day I can hopefully become an officer of watch.

"I can’t thank Paragon skills and SWAC enough for helping me discover a new passion! One of which I can build upon to guide me towards a successful career. "

The Apprenticeship has boosted my confidence and helped me stand out in the company. I would recommend if anyone is considering an Apprenticeship to just go for it. It makes you very attractive to other companies as they love people who like to learn.
