28 year old Kelly began her career in retail straight from school, working for Matalan as a retail assistant then progressing into food retail with various positions in Sainsbury’s and McDonalds. She really enjoyed the customer facing elements of her roles and was promoted to supervisor level positions, which gave her valuable experience in customer care and managing people.
One of Kelly’s managers suggested that maybe she’d like to consider training in childcare as she saw great potential in her. After researching this idea, and being denied a place at University, Kelly opted for the Apprenticeship route so that she could gain hands on experience and assess that a career in childcare was definitely for her.
With Paragon Skills help, Kelly began a Level 2 in Children and Young People’s Workforce in October 2015, working for the Treetops Nursery in Dudley. She has now completed her Level 3 and is a qualified Nursery Nurse.
“I love my job! It can be challenging but the children make it so rewarding when you see them grow and learn so many new things.”
“Anyone thinking about taking up an Apprenticeship just go for it! It’s hard work but you get to achieve your dreams. Paragon’s assessors, Kerry and Dawn, were amazing and gave me so much help!”

Kelly’s career plans are to remain working with children and potentially to work within a hospital or a school teacher.
“I feel there are not so many options open to me, I definitely will carry on learning, which ever direction I go in.”
