Support Worker Dawn Kemble from Rugeley in Staffordshire was 45 before she chose her career in Social Care. After twenty years bringing up a family and working part time in a fish and chip shop, she started work at Mencap where they supported her in applying to study a NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care with Paragon Skills.
Dawn’s decision to take an NVQ was to get her back on the career ladder, helping develop her key skills and self-confidence and confirming to her that a career in Health and Social Care was the right one.
“I’ve achieved my dream of finding an enjoyable full time job which in turn has given me self-worth and realisation that I have a purpose in life outside of being a housewife. It certainly pushed me to my personal limits, I’m so proud of myself”.
Dawn’s goal for the future is to move into assistant management. She is gaining more and more skills through working in the community with people who have severe disabilities, giving her an insight into what support will be needed in the future with the ever increasing aging population.
“I’d like to thank my tutors at Paragon Skills who were very helpful and considerate. You’re never too old to learn, go for it! ”
