Innovative new automotive Apprenticeships
The UK’s leading breakdown service - the AA has teamed up with Paragon Skills to launch an innovative new automotive Apprenticeship training programme to be delivered at Paragon Skills Automotive Academy in Bournemouth. This collaboration will ensure the continual development of skilled automotive experts for the AA through a structured and tailored Apprenticeship programme.
Whilst the AA have always invested heavily in training their workforce, this is their first foray into Automotive Apprenticeships. The new automotive Apprenticeship standards that have been introduced just this year offer incredible potential for adaptability to suit any organisation’s specific training requirements, unlike the old SASE frameworks that didn’t offer any flexibility.
Bringing new talent to the AA
This is an exciting opportunity to bring new/fresh talent into the AA, creating a blend of skills to provide the highest standard of trained roadside technicians. Through working in partnership over recent months, we have created a unique training programme that embeds the AA’s organisational values, people culture and in-house learning and development.
The Roadside Technician Programme is based on the Light Vehicle Service and Maintenance Level 3 Apprenticeship Standards which is a 3-year programme combining a valuable mixture of on and off-the-job training. Apprentices will be employed by and based at nationwide garages known as the AA’s ‘Good Garage Scheme’ sites and will undertake block-release training at our state-of-the-art Bournemouth Academy in ten 1-week blocks throughout the year.
In addition to the Roadside Technician Programme we will also be delivering a 2-year Autocare Technician Standard to the AA inspections team which are based at British Car Auction (BCA) sites around the country.
The programme offers exciting career prospects for individuals looking to join the automotive industry with a generous starting salary for Apprentices, good benefits package and a structured training programme. Upon completion of the 3-year level 3 Apprenticeship, employees on the scheme will then have the opportunity to progress to join the Roadside Patrol team to continue their learning journey and gain valuable work experience.
At certain milestones within the programme, Apprentices will access to different tooling, and the first milestone will take place 6 months to 8 months into the training programme. There will be presentation evenings, and additional training opportunities for learners whilst on block-release training and we are really looking forward to starting the programme in October.
