Apprenticeships Explained
Apprenticeships offer an excellent option whether you’re embarking on your career journey or aiming to advance professionally. If you’ve landed on this blog, you likely share this sentiment but seek additional insights into the process and how to kickstart your apprenticeship journey. We hope to answer your questions in this blog, so continue reading to find out more.
How it works
When it comes to apprenticeships, there are two distinct pathways. Whether you’re working with us or another training provider, the first pathway involves selecting an apprenticeship. Consider the career path you’re embarking on and choose the course you’d like to start. Your training provider can then assist you in finding an employer who is seeking an apprentice in your chosen field.
The second pathway applies if you’re already employed and wish to remain with your current employer. In this case, your training provider will discuss options with you and your employer, advising your employer on the necessary steps to support you in your apprenticeship. Together, you’ll choose the right course to enhance your career progression in your chosen field.
Regardless of the route you choose, your training provider will guide you throughout your journey. The essence of an apprenticeship lies in applying your learning directly in the workplace while earning as you go. Collaboration between yourself, your employer, and your training provider is key during your apprenticeship. As a training provider, Paragon Skills works closely with your employer to provide optimal support and opportunities for your learning, integrating it into real-life practice.
Finding the right fit
With a diverse array of apprenticeship programmes at your fingertips, finding the right fit can feel slightly overwhelming. You want an apprenticeship that aligns with your needs, sets you on the right career path, and, of course a programme you will enjoy.

Apprenticeship chosen
After applying for your preferred apprenticeship programme and being selected, and are in the job role with apprenticeship programme of your choice, it’s time to make things official. Your dedicated Personal Tutor will reach out to introduce themselves and schedule a meeting with you—either in person or via a phone/video call. During this meeting, your Tutor will gather all the necessary information to kickstart your apprenticeship journey. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about what to expect. Your Tutor’s goal is to ensure that your apprenticeship experience aligns perfectly with your aspirations and meets your employer’s expectations.
Off-the-job training
Off-the-job training refers to learning and development activities that occur outside your regular workplace but still within your normal working hours. The purpose of off-the-job training is to enhance an apprenticeship beyond the specific vocational skills directly related to your role. These activities encompass a wide range of experiences, including shadowing, mentoring, revision, training day release, industry visits, roleplay, theory, online learning, and participation in competitions. They contribute valuable knowledge and skills to your overall apprenticeship journey.
What’s next?
During the End Point Assessment (EPA), you’ll have the chance to demonstrate your job capabilities. The specific format of the EPA will vary based on your completed course and individual circumstances. It’s important to note that the EPA is not a traditional ‘exam,’ so there’s no need to panic. Your Tutor will provide you with all the necessary support to succeed. Once you pass and receive your certificates, you’ll be well-prepared to showcase your skills and knowledge to the world, enhancing your career.
