Carolyn Lapping

Leadership & Management at Optivo

Carolyn had previously attended internal training with Optivo which had been really good, however did not result in a formal qualification. She saw undertaking this Team Leader apprenticeship programme as a good way to improve her skills, and gain a management qualification.

So far, the apprenticeship has provided me lots of knowledge I can put into practice with my team including management theories, emotional intelligence, communication, communicating styles and conflict management. I also feel that I am better equipped to handle difficult situations now I have the theory in place to put this into practice.

Carolyn’s thoughts on the apprenticeship so far

Prisca, my Personal Tutor, has been really supportive and helps me if I am unsure or have a question. My line manager and Optivo have been really supportive and always encourage me to block out time in my calendar to focus on my apprenticeship programme to help keep me on track.

Once I have completed this apprenticeship, I would really like to progress to the Operational/Departmental Manager level 5 programme. If I was giving advice to someone wanting to do this apprenticeship, I would say that it is really worth doing as it covers a broad range of subjects that you can use in your day to day role.
