The best part of an apprenticeship is being able to learn and work at the same time. Learning and working side by side has been the biggest benefit for me. It’s boosted my confidence and allowed me to bring new knowledge straight into the care I provide.
Dorothy’s thoughts on apprenticeships
For Dorothy, choosing an apprenticeship was the perfect route. The ability to learn while working meant she could apply new knowledge immediately, reinforcing her learning and strengthening her practice. She feels that combining education with hands‑on experience has been one of the biggest benefits, helping her grow more confident in decision‑making and in delivering high-quality care.
One of the highlights of her training was taking part in focused group sessions with fellow learners. She particularly enjoyed how each person brought different ideas, experiences and perspectives. These discussions broadened her understanding of the sector, sparked valuable conversations and helped her develop practical insights she could bring back into her workplace.
Throughout her apprenticeship, Dorothy felt well supported by both CCH Group and Paragon Skills. Her manager played an important role, offering guidance through difficult topics and explaining concepts clearly when she needed help. Her personal tutors were always available to talk, offering reassurance, answering questions and keeping her informed about upcoming steps, assessments and exams. This combination of employer and training provider support helped her feel motivated, prepared and valued throughout the programme.
Dorothy says the apprenticeship has had a huge impact on her career. Not only has it strengthened her understanding of care, but it has also significantly improved her communication skills and boosted her confidence in her role. The qualification has opened doors, given her new ambition and inspired her to take the next step in her journey.
Looking forward, Dorothy is taking everything she has learned into the next chapter of her career. She is I the process of submitting her university application for Adult Nursing; a goal the apprenticeship has helped her feel ready to pursue. With new qualifications, expanded knowledge and a passion rooted in personal experience, Dorothy is excited to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people she cares for.
