My advice to someone who is thinking about an apprenticeship is do it, absolutely do it. You’ll learn things about yourself that you didn’t know was possible.
Ellen’s thoughts on her apprenticeship
The role I’m in now was made possible thanks to my apprenticeship with Paragon Skills. I chose to do an apprenticeship because my husband is part of the armed forces. This meant that we have to move around a lot every few years, and having a career for myself is actually quite difficult. So when this opportunity came about for an apprenticeship with Action for Children, it was something for myself, something that I could earn and be proud of and can use later on in life with all the skills that I’ve learned.
Action for children have been amazing with support. I had a really supportive line manager who trusted me to make sure I was getting things completed, but I could also go to her if I was struggling or wanted her advice or just gain some knowledge from her, it was great. This amazing support from Action for Children, along with the support and guidance from my personal tutor throughout my apprenticeship with Paragon Skills, helped me to grow my skills and promote learning and development to others. I have also learned things about myself through my own personal development, that I didn’t know possible and learned that even when you think things are a bit more challenging, you’ve just got to face the challenge. I’d recommend doing an apprenticeship to anybody.
