Karen Douglas

Coaching Professional Apprentice, National Care Group

As a practice development lead and positive behaviour support manager, Karen viewed her apprenticeship as a great opportunity to learn more about coaching and mentoring, developing and using her skills differently.

Karen is constantly looking forward, thinking of ways to utilise her skills and experience. She continues to run one-to-one training sessions, has run courses with NCG to managers promoting culture within the company, and has recently been accepted as a volunteer employability and progression mentor with the Prince’s Trust.

I do think it’s a great experience for anybody and I think people younger people where they can do the apprenticeships and maybe getting that experience within the workplace as well. It’s excellent. You can kind of learn while you’re gaining the experience.

Karen’s thoughts on the apprenticeship

I think for me, being an older learner and already in the role, it was different for me but I think it’s a brilliant experience for anybody and I think for younger people, where they can do the apprenticeship and get the experience within the workplace as well, it’s excellent. You can learn while you’re gaining the experience.

The support I had was brilliant; I think that if you’re an older learner or working full time, it can be difficult to fit it all in but my tutor waws really great about that. She really gave me the support I needed, so I would recommend it to anybody.
