Kathryne Rance

Level 5 Lead Early Years Practitioner, Building Blocks Christian Day Nursery

Kathryne currently works as a Nursery Deputy for Building Blocks Christian Hay Nursery, while currently working through her Level 5 Lead Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship with Paragon Skills.

Kathryne’s journey within the childcare sector began 6 years ago, when she was offered a temporary place at the nursery to cover other staff on leave. This role then lead to working part time at the nursery, before moving into the role of keyworker full time for the past 4 years. Kathryne explained that she has always liked the idea of becoming a teacher, and that she is interested in how child development enhances and affects the brain.

Kathryne feels that working with children in incredibly rewarding, helping them to learn and develop. She likes to be a hands on keyworker within the nursery so is very involved and completes her job role to the best of her ability – she maintains this attitude through her apprenticeship learning, wanting to push herself and show how much she is capable of. Kathryne has recently been appointed as a Nursery Deputy, where she will continue learning and developing within the role.

An apprenticeship lets me continue working and doing what I love, while further progressing and challenging myself.

Kathryne’s thoughts on her apprenticeship

This is Kathryne’s first experience with Paragon Skills to complete an apprenticeship and is thoroughly enjoying the learning process so far. She is able to work within the nursery as a Deputy and doing what she loves, while further enhancing her knowledge, skills and qualifications and progressing and challenging herself through her learning and work experience.

Kathryne had previously completed her Level 3 with a different provider, and voiced that personally, she did not have a good experience through her learning. However, she expressed the difference when continuing her learning with Paragon Skills; appreciating the monthly meetings and check ins with her tutor, knowing that she will always have the guidance and support she needs. Kathryne’s tutor is always on hand to help, teaching tutorials in a way that makes them engaging and knows Kathryne well, often challenging her which Kathryne always welcomes as she knows it is these challenges and support that will help with her career development and progression.

Once Kathryne has completed her Level 5 apprenticeship, she aims to continue to a Level 6 apprenticeship, striving to earn her Early Years Teacher status, and continue within this line of work within the childcare sector.
