A lot of educational routes give you the theory first and the experience later. Apprenticeships have these two strands running at the same time, so you can put what you’ve learnt immediately into practice.
Mark’s thoughts on his apprenticeship
Mark explains that many educational routes provide the theory first, and experience later. However apprenticeships run these two strands alongside each other; so he is able to take what he learns and put it into practice immediately. Within a sector such as early years education, this is a powerful way to learn as you are able to see what ideas will work; by the end of your apprenticeship journey, you’re in a great position to progress in your career.
The opportunity to read into different theories about how children learn has been invaluable to Mark; allowing him to tailor activities to each child’s own learning style which in turn increases the chance of children in his care experiencing some real achievement – leading to his goal of children in his care going home happy and having learnt something new.
Mark voiced the incredible support provided by his employer and Paragon Skills; allowing flexibility in organising off-the-job hours, passing on valuable knowledge and offering an abundance of encouragement in the workplace. As well as extra support offered by his tutor and Paragon Skills, sharing reliable sources of information, boosting his confidence in the quality of his assignments.
Once completing his apprenticeship, Mark aims to remain in his current role, striving to be the best he can be for the children in his care and will be considering a managerial role in the future.
