Nicola Chapman

Operations/ Departmental Manager Level 5 Apprentice, Action for Children

Nicola works as Operations Manager for Action for Children, working for Spring RAF Whyton, having just achieved a distinction in her level 5 Operations/ Departmental Manager apprenticeship. Spring is an award-winning childcare brand built by Action for Children, offering extended childcare services from birth to 14 years, through their Spring Nurseries and out of school clubs across the United Kingdom. Action for Children and Spring are committed to providing seamless childcare solutions for every step of a child’s journey and development.

As Operations Manger, Nicola is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the nursery at Spring RAF Wyton. This includes oversight of safeguarding, health and safety practices and child protection. Spring Nurseries provide high-quality childcare services and opportunities for children that are accessible to all. They do this by ensuring a holistic and sustainable approach to health and wellbeing across all settings for children and families, with a key focus on nutrition, outdoor play, and mental health. As Operations Manager for the Spring RAF Wyton branch, Nicola is responsible for overseeing these aspects and supporting her team, ensuring that the setting is a springboard for healthy first steps, caring for every child based on their individual needs to unlock each child’s potential and grow their confidence through unique learning opportunities, that allow them to explore and discover their own creativity, individuality, and imagination within an engaging and safe environment.

If you’re considering it, I would just do it because you get more skill set, you get more knowledge and you’re expanding on your own professional development as well.

Nicola’s thoughts on her apprenticeship

I was motivated to do the apprenticeship because I wanted to develop my career. I’ve been a manager for just over a year now, when the opportunity was brought to me to see if I wanted to do it, I jumped at the opportunity and wanted to see how far I could go really.

It’s also given me the opportunity to then become the operations manager at Spring with Action for Children as well. I think that without expanding my professional and personal development, the skills and knowledge and I’ve gained from the apprenticeship, I wouldn’t have had the knowledge or confidence to do it so I’m really grateful for the opportunity and support from Action for Children and Paragon Skills.
