Remi Shonibare

Leader in Adult Care Level 5 apprentice, CCH Group

Remi Shonibare’s journey into the care sector began unexpectedly. While serving as Student President at the School of Engineering, a volunteering visit to a residential home shifted his perspective on what purposeful work could look like. Seeing first-hand the power of simple compassion inspired him to pursue a career where he could make a meaningful difference every day.

He joined CCH Group as a Care Assistant, quickly gaining recognition for his commitment to high‑quality care and his natural leadership ability. This early promise led him into roles focused on coordination, quality, and compliance; areas that allowed him to combine his care experience with his strong background in project management, economics, and business administration.

Today, Remi oversees key aspects of branch operations, ensuring consistency, safety, and regulatory alignment. His impact is clear: he improved branch compliance from 49.7% to 92.2%, strengthened onboarding to reduce staff turnover, and achieved full alignment with business standards. Alongside these achievements, he has earned multiple awards within CCH Group; including Employee of the Month in two roles, the Kindness in Care award, and a nomination for Branch Team Member of the Year for the North West.

Choosing the Leader in Adult Care Level 5 apprenticeship felt like a natural next step for Remi; a way to grow quickly in the sector while continuing to learn through real hands‑on experience.

Remi’s thoughts on apprenticeships

For Remi, apprenticeships offer an invaluable blend of learning and practical development. Being able to gain specialist knowledge while applying it immediately in his role made the programme more impactful than traditional academic routes. One of the most rewarding aspects for him was deepening his understanding of the regulatory requirements within adult care, something that has strengthened his confidence and capability as a developing leader in care.

Support from both Paragon Skills and CCH Group played an important part in his progress. Regular check-ins from his manager and personal tutor ensured he stayed on track, while his tutor, Catherine, played a transformative role. She taught Remi to believe in himself, challenged him, and helped him recognise his strengths. Learning on the job while receiving her expert coaching meant he could immediately apply new knowledge, refine his skills, and see the impact directly in the people he supports. This approach helped him develop faster, think more critically, and become more intentional in his role.

Completing his Level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship has placed Remi firmly on the path to becoming a CQC Registered Manager, an important step toward the influential leadership role he aspires to. Looking ahead, he aims to move further into compliance and quality improvement, using his expertise to elevate standards across adult care services. His ambition is to strengthen systems, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to a safer, more accountable, and more responsive care sector for the people and communities who depend on it. With his dedication, insight, and growing leadership strength, Remi is poised to make a meaningful, lasting impact on the future of care.
