Steven Isaac

Adult Care apprentice, Caremark Thanet

Steven is currently working as a care support worker with Caremark Thanet, having just completed his Level 2 Adult Care apprenticeship. Steven chose to enrol in his course in order to improve his knowledge and understanding of care in all aspects, while working through the levels available.

Steven first began thinking about a career in the care sector after becoming a carer, supporting a family member who required extra care. He wanted to reach out and help others in his community, and decided the way to do this was to pursue a career in care. As a carer, Stevens’ favourite part about his role is knowing that he is making someone’s life that little bit easier; that he is there to support and make sure they can carry out any tasks safely.

Steven plans to continue his learning and improve his care sector knowledge; he aims to move on to work on a Level 3 Care apprenticeship and continue to work up through to other levels. Steven is planning to look into a career path in becoming a mentor for apprenticeships himself, and further himself with his current employer, Caremark to progress to a supervisor or manger role; recently making the next step in his career as his employer enrolled him to stand as a mentor to other apprentices studying with the organisation.

I would recommend an apprenticeship to everyone that I know, who wants to join the care sector. Definitely go into an apprenticeship, and especially through Paragon because they’ve been so supportive throughout the whole course.

Steven’s thoughts on the apprenticeship

Steven felt supported by his personal tutor every step of the way and has now joined our Paragon Skills Ambassador programme; after hearing about the programme, he wanted to join to help get the word out about apprenticeships in care, to pass on his knowledge, encourage others to enrol on apprenticeships and support other apprenticeships through his own experience. So far Steven has written several blog posts to show others what it’s like as an apprentice in care and how it has benefitted his career progression.
