If you are interested in undertaking your Boatbuilding Level 3 Apprenticeship, then you already know that you enjoy using your practical skills and solving problems in the marine industry.

You also know which areas of boatbuilding interest you. This Level 3 Apprenticeship lets you develop your skillsets and enjoy on and off the job training in a range of areas and roles such as; Principles of boatbuilding technology, Business improvement techniques, Yacht and boatbuilding assembly and sub-assembly, and FRP manufacture for marine construction.

As an apprentice, you’ll spend time in the classroom as well as out in the field getting first-hand experience in a range of areas so you can see what suits you best. You’ll also be assigned a personal mentor to help guide you through each stage of your Apprenticeship, which will last anything from one to four years. And all this whilst working and earning money.

What can you expect?

On successful completion of your training you will hold a Boatbuilding Level 3 Apprenticeship

As a qualified Boatbuilder you will be competent in building and repairing all types of boats, from small personal craft to large superyachts. Experienced boat builders may also design vessels or assist naval architects.

Your work could include:

  • Boat repairs, from osmosis
  • Anti-fouling
  • Gel repairs
  • wide range of traditional joinery

The exact details of your job depends on your specific employer, but typically you would expect to work around 40 hours a week. You may have to work occasional overtime in order to meet deadlines.
