Your Apprenticeship in Business Administration
The level 2 Business Administration Apprenticeship is designed with a variety of administrative roles in mind, including receptionists, junior legal assistants and any role involving supporting the organisation in terms of administration.
Mandatory units on the Business Administration level 2 Apprenticeship include:
- Communication in a business environment
- Understanding employer organisations
- Principles of providing administrative services
- Principles of business document production and information management
- Manage personal performance and development
- Develop working relationships with colleagues
Other optional units include: analysing and presenting business data, developing and delivering presentations, providing administrative support for meetings, managing diary systems, collating and reporting data, administrating finance, monitoring information systems, website software and data management software.
When you successfully complete your Business Administration Intermediate Level Apprenticeship, you will qualify with a Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration. You will also have valuable functional skills qualifications in maths, English & ICT, solid references, some great colleagues and positive experiences behind you.

The Business Administration level 2 Apprenticeship is a starting point for anyone wishing to work in an office environment, or for those already working in an office environment who would like to undertake a professional qualification. These roles include a receptionist for a law firm or in any environment where business administration skills are required. Business administrators have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied to all sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike; from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector.
The role may involve working independently or as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. Business administrators develop key skills and behaviours to support their own progression towards management responsibilities.
A Business Administration Intermediate Level Apprenticeship is an investment in the skills you need to succeed in any business environment. These skills include:
- Good organisational skills
- Interaction and 'people' skills
- An understanding and tactful approach
- Willingness to learn new techniques and methods
The exact details of your job depend on your specific employer, but typically you can expect to work between 35 and 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Part-time and temporary work is widely available. As a Business Administration assistant, your role could include any of the following:
- Dealing with incoming and outgoing post
- Answering telephone, email and social media enquiries
- Helping with the organisation of meetings and events
- Taking meeting notes
You’ll also learn:
- How to type up documents
- How to use office equipment such as printers, photocopiers and fax machines
- How to greet office visitors and interact face-to-face with many people in the organisation
- How to manage stock and reorder office supplies
Your pathway to success
Once your Apprenticeship is completed, you could progress to the Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Business Administration, or employment in the industry in a role such as administrator, office junior, receptionist and junior legal secretary among others.
