Who is the Apprenticeship for?

This Apprenticeship is ideal for employees that contribute to the learning & development of children and young people, and work under supervision with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age in a range of educational settings.

These employees love helping the children and young people that they work with to develop social and practical skills and work hard to create a positive and safe environment for everyone.

Typical roles that this Apprenticeship will support are:

Nursery Nurse, Childminder, Care Worker, Special Needs Assistant, Residential Support Worker, Learning Support Assistant and Playcentre Assistant.

What will they learn?

This Apprenticeship has been designed to develop and improve your employees’ skills and knowledge so that they can maintain and support better relationships with children and young people and understand their needs, whatever setting they work in.

They will also learn how to provide the best support to their team members and other colleagues to ensure that every young person receives the same level of provision.

Our Apprenticeships will ensure that you have the best people to provide the best and most consistent service to every individual you support.

How will they learn?

Our Personal Tutors will deliver high-quality face-to-face learning and coaching and provide all the resources your employee will need to progress quickly. Our intuitive learner management system ‘Bud’ will really bring the subject to life through interactive learning tools, access to complementary online resources and relevant social communities, as well as provide real-time learner information so that you will always know what your employee is learning and how they are progressing.

This Apprenticeship will develop your employees’ knowledge, skills and behaviours in the following areas:

Mandatory units

  • Communication & personal development in a children & young person’s setting • Equality, diversity & inclusion • Providing a positive environment & supporting positive behaviour • Safeguarding the welfare of children & young people • Contributing to children & young people’s health & safety • Partnership working in services for children & young people • Maintain & support relationships with children and young people

Optional units

  • Supporting children & young people at meal or snack times • Contribute to the support of communication, language & literacy • Contribute to the support of children’s creative development • Understand the needs of children who are vulnerable & experiencing poverty & disadvantages • Understanding the expected pattern of a child & young person’s development

There are approximately 2.7 million people working with children and young people in England. Opportunities are increasing as the population grows and more parents rely on childcare support in order to continue with their own work commitments.

Once you have successfully completed your Children and Young People’s Workforce Intermediate Level 2 Apprenticeship, you can progress onto the Early Years Educator Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship or the Supporting Teach & Learning in Schools Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship

Work opportunities for qualified childcare workers vary considerably and could include working in a playschool, as a childminder, in a school, in a hotel, on a cruise ship, or you can even start your own business.
