What you can expect

On successful completion of your Customer Service Advanced Level Apprenticeship you will hold a Level 3 Diploma in Customer Service as well as Functional Skills in Maths and English.

As a qualified customer service manager you will be confident in communicating effectively with customers face-to-face, in writing or by telephone, and managing teams within a customer service environment.

Your work could include:

  • Supervising and training staff
  • Resolving problems
  • Improving customer relations
  • Promoting products and services
  • Using office software equipment to communicate
  • Keeping records
  • Gathering and analyzing customer feedback

 

The exact details of your job during your Apprenticeship depend on your specific employer, but typically in a full-time role you can expect to work between 35 and 40 hours a week. Shift work, including evenings and weekend is common in the retail, leisure and contact centre industries.

Becoming a customer service manager is a skill for life and can open doors to a long and rewarding career. As a customer service supervisor you could work in a variety of areas.

The need for high levels of customer service skills is evident across all sectors. In particular the Retail, Financial Services, Contact Centre, Hospitality, Sport and Recreation, Health and Social Care, Telecommunications and Travel and Tourism sectors have the particularly high levels of customer service apprentices, with many other sectors, such as Local Government, Motor Vehicle, Power & Energy, Housing and Manufacturing also showing numbers still in their hundreds.

Due to the varied nature of the customer service industry there are many job roles that apply to the advanced Apprenticeship level. Dedicated customer service job roles will include: Customer Relationship Manager, Customer Support Officer, Customer Service Team Leader, Customer Service Supervisory and Customer Service Co-ordinator.
