What is the Workforce Development Fund?

The Workforce Development Fund for 2023-24 is a funding stream from the Department of Health and Social Care. It provides a contribution towards the costs of vocational learning. The fund allows you to claim back money towards the costs of workers completing a broad range of adult social care Apprenticeships (NVQ/Diploma). Over 20,000 care providers are currently utilising the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set and you can too. The amount you can receive for the different levels of Apprenticeships are:

  • Level 2 Apprenticeship – £1000
  • Level 3 Apprenticeship – £1300
  • Level 4 Apprenticeship – £1550
  • Level 5 Apprenticeship – £2000

A maximum of £2,000 can be claimed per learner per funding year. You can claim funding for the same learner in multiple funding years, to support their personal development and career progression.

Are you eligible?

To be eligible to claim this funding you must:

  • Provide an adult social care service and directly employ care staff within England.
  • Your learner must have completed an eligible qualification. learning programme or digital learning module between 1 January 2023 and 31 March 2024.
  • Have an Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set account that meets the Workforce Development Fund requirements.
  • Your learner’s certificate must be dated from 1 January 2023 to 31 March 2024.

How do I apply:

There are two ways you can apply for the Workplace Development Fund.

Apply Directly with Skills for Care by:

  • Submit a Workforce Development Fund declaration form by 29 February 2024 and they will send you an agreement to sign and return.
  • Make sure your Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set account meets Workforce Development Fund requirements listed above.
  • Submit your grant holder claims submission form along with your claim form and a copy of your learners’ certificate to Skills for Care.

Apply through national partnership:

  • Join a partnership – the contact details of all partnership can be found here.
  • Submit a partnership member’s declaration form to the grant holder of your chosen partnership before 29 February 2024.
  • Make sure your an Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set account meets Workforce Development Fund
  • Submit your employer claims submission form along with a copy of your learner’s certificate to your partnership.
