Let’s talk about work-life balance
Guest blog written by Niki Husher, Safeguarding & People Business Partner, Knovia Group People Team
This week is National Work Life Week (6–10 October 2025), an annual campaign led by Working Families to spotlight the importance of wellbeing at work and the value of flexible, inclusive working practices. Under this year’s theme, Flex for All, the campaign calls on employers to make flexibility the default for everyone, especially those with caring responsibilities. It’s a chance for organisations to reflect, celebrate, and share how they support their people to thrive both professionally and personally.
Why work-life balance matters
Life can be busy, and sometimes it feels like work and personal life are constantly competing for our time and energy. That’s why we’re committed to making work-life balance more than just a buzzword. We want our colleagues to feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive both in and out of work.
As someone who works closely with our teams on safeguarding and people support, I’ve seen firsthand how much of a difference it makes when wellbeing is a real priority, not just something we talk about, but something we embed into our culture and live every day.
Work-life balance isn’t just about having flexible hours or taking time off (though those things help!). It’s about creating a culture where people feel safe to be themselves, where their wellbeing is looked after, and where they’re trusted to manage their time in a way that works for them.
When people feel good, they do good — for themselves, their teams, and the wider business.
How we support our people
Wellbeing is part of who we are. We’ve built a range of support to help our colleagues feel their best:
Flexible working
Through diary management, we trust our people to work in ways that suit their lives and responsibilities.
Mental health support
We have trained mental health first aiders across the business, and colleagues can access up to six confidential counselling sessions via our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), available through Perkbox. Regular wellbeing check-ins with line managers also help keep conversations open and supportive.
Wellbeing resources
Colleagues can access our refreshed wellbeing library on Perkbox includes mindfulness sessions, fitness challenges, webinars, and more, whenever they need a boost. One highlight is the Work-Life Balance audio guide, which offers practical tips on setting boundaries, prioritising effectively, and creating a balance that works.
Leave that makes a difference
We offer enhanced leave options, including volunteering leave, parental leave, and carers’ leave, so our people can take time for what matters most.
Walking the journey together
We know that work-life balance looks different for everyone. That’s why we’re always listening, learning, and adapting. Whether someone’s going through a tough time or celebrating a big life moment, we want them to feel supported every step of the way.
Final thoughts
Supporting wellbeing isn’t just good for business, it’s the right thing to do. We’re proud to be building a workplace where people can grow, connect, and find balance in a way that works for them.
