Will my financial status affect my Advanced learner loan application?

No, there are no credit checks and your eligibility does not depend on your income. Eligibility depends on the course, college/training provider, your age and nationality/residency status.

What do I need to apply for the Advanced learner loan?

With either a valid passport or birth/adoption certificate.

When will I have to pay my Advanced learner loan back?

When your income is £25,000 or above after the course completion. If your income is £25,000 or above during or immediately after the course completion; payments will be taken from the following April after the course is completed.

How will I make payments to student finance?

Payments will be taken directly out of your wage along with your tax. Payments are calculated on 9% of your salary.

Will I pay interest on my Advanced learner loan?

Yes, you pay interest from the time your first payment is made until you pay your loan back in full.


Maria is an energetic and motivated young person who is ready to put her creativity to work in a salon environment. Maria regularly adds videos to her Instagram channel to show off the looks she has created. 

Now all she needs is the right environment to put these into practice. 


Leigha is so excited about the opportunity of working at a salon and is a real people person. She enjoys watching YouTube videos on hairdressing in her spare time and even takes the opportunity to practice on her family.  She said “I think I will enjoy learning how to style and wash Hair the most, although I’m so excited for it all! I can’t wait to start and meet all the clients.” 


Jessica has always wanted to work in a salon. She is confident in her makeup skills and will take any spare time to master her skills. 

“My name is Jessica, I’m so excited about working in a salon, I’ve always been amazing at makeup, and I always practice every chance I get.” 


Kaitlin recently secured a placement for herself at the New Church House salon. She takes pride in her work and is known to post makeup looks almost daily on her Facebook or Instagram. 

“I put in the most effort I can into my work, and I will make sure to do so every day of the week whilst working.”
